My God, and my all surpassing Lover,
It is to You alone that I look to see
Once more Your Blessed Face, and cover
Mine once more, as I see You and flee
Within my self -- I cannot look uponYour thorn pierced brow.
It was for Love of me, and all who come
To You, dear Lord, that lovely brow wore
Thorns so harshly placed upon that wounded
Sacred Head with its kingly Visage so marred.
I wept once more -- as I tried to experience the pasach blood.
Oh, Lamb of God, it is to You I offer praise,
For, You, my highest Love are worthy
Of highest exaltation, Oh, Flame of Love ablaze
With Light that burned into my eyes by that Ember, hotly
piercing through my brow, that offers me purgation.
To God alone be highest praise, oh Living Flame of Love,
That Sweetest Burning Ember, so Divine,
The lasting Expression upon my soul from above.
I long to sense within my soul the Fire that will refine
This heart of darkness in the stillness of the night.
My God, and my all surpassing Lover,
It is to You alone that I look to see
Once more Your Blessed Face, and uncover
Mine, as I see You once more, set free
Within my self for You, through the Blood of Your pierced body.
I am not my own, my Lord, but I belong to God.
I am Your lowly servant. You are my God and my all.
I owe no supreme allegiance to any other one.
My Lord Jesus, I would desire to listen only for Your loving call
Within my heart in the quiet of my own dark night
Where your Spirit flows into my heart with everlasting Light.
